Stories for Students from Students - Once upon a time... Ohio State students shared the joy of reading with Columbus school children.

Continued Effort for Sustainable and Lasting Impact

This is the ninth year of the SFSFS program and we couldn’t be more excited! This year we have chosen to build upon the current program and work with a single school on a one-day reading event.

This year the program will work with Ohio Avenue Elementary School’s 2nd Grade classes on a one-day reading event being held on Tuesday, April 11th. The event theme is “reading as empowerment”. This event will allow Ohio State University students to engage with Ohio Avenue Elementary School students and foster a love for reading through a day of reading in classrooms with 2nd grade students. Volunteers will bring a landmark book from their childhood that inspired them to read more, and they will have the opportunity to read it, as well as engage in discussions about how reading can empower the 2nd Grade students.

Additionally, there will be a Scholastic book fair held the same day that will provide one free book for every student in Ohio Avenue Elementary School, The goal is to raise monetary donations to allow every student to pick their very own book to promote literacy and education among Ohio Avenue Elementary School youth.
